So as always though I said i'd update with something that resembles regularity this may have swiftly fallen in to the realm of lies and foul calumnies.
In short here's a quick rundown of the past week. I spent at least 2 days DYING...fabric. Trying to colour match my yarn, its horrible, my hands feel like someone dipped them in acid and then peed on them to make them feel better. All in all it was a good learning curve but i am nowhere near being able to make a sexy pair of orange shorts because the orange i have is not so much sexy...as nasty and no one wants nasty orange shorts skipping down the run way to the drum and bass remix of the Russian National Anthem.
Last week i also had a crit, all in all went well. they decided that one of my jumpers needs to not be a jumper so much of a jersey crop dress with a grown on roll neck. Once i get my head round the concept I'll post a drawing with the foxy digital print added.

I need to work on my working drawings. They look rubbish.
I need to do a mood board to someone (Robbie?!?!?!)>
I need to not waste my weekends staying up till 6am. How ever fun the dancing and conversation engaging.
Has anyone ever read Lorna Doone? Its good book, one of my favourite a long with Jamaica Inn.

Maybe its been too long...

I did state that this blog would be both poorly maintained and infrequently updated but as per request of a few people i thought i throw some stuff out just so you can see whats been going on.
The new project (and by new i mean old) is like constructivism meets army surplus, and because i am a knit fiend, its mostly just going to be big jumpers! So here are some quick mock ups of some possible intarsia and fair isle designs.

Sketch Up!

Been awhile since my last post due to being well busy with finishing up uni and moving house :o but I decided to have a brief chat about the general awesomeness of Sketch Up.
Sketch Up is another one of them google things and unsurprisingly it is pretty damn cool. Its 3d for idiots. Once you get to grips with the tools everything is easy. I say this because I am a pen and paper kind of gal, CAD tends to leave me in a quivering wreck on the floor yanking out my hair and screaming curses at god about why anyone would make such a horrific piece of software and expect those of us who are not computer minded to use with it.
Anyway, the reason i started my whole sketch up thing is because someone directed me towards these Tetris Shelves and because I'm cheap and I really, really like building stuff I kind of set my heart on it for a summer project. So back to sketch up, I tried drawing, I'm pretty good at thinking in 3d but it turned out that drawing tetris pieces is kind of hard so I decided to try something new and it turns out that sketch up was the answer. I can now see exactly how many pieces of wood i need, how long they need to be and it is awesome. All I need to do now is convince my Dad that letting me use a saw would be a good idea and if I want to stain the blocks different colours.

Soooo yesterday i went to Dot to Dot a magical musical extravaganza held in venues across Bristol. I really wanted to take my camera out to shoot some pictures but it broke and thus there no pictures i just have a stonking hangover and a hurty eye from where i got bubbles in it when i was playing in the fountain. But i guess that kind of serves me right.
I did get to see some fun stuff, after i recoverd from the fountain induced blindness, like Patrick Wolf and Lady Hawk but potentially the best band of the day where Chik Budo, they have a sax, and i honestly believe that all bands can be improved with the addition of a bit of brass. Skulls meets some old school fairisle.

So here are some fairisle patterns for the knitted part of my collection way exciting or what. I have been having some serious issues with the (crappy) CAD knitting machine so forgive the spottyness of some of the samples the final knits will be much tidier.

One of the first samples i knitted, had some dropped stitch problems.

Same as above but smaller and with less skull action. You can see where the knitting machine is catching in the high light colour stitches which is very annoying but sadly unfixable untill i get on the good machine.

Subtle, potentially a bit disgusting as well... reminds me of babies which is probably a bad thing. Not enough contrast in the colours and due to the spotting the pattern is way less clear.

I am really hoping it doesn't look too piratical.

Hello there,
SO first post, and what will it be about? Not much. This seems to me a rather random time to start a blog as i only have like 3?!?! weeks left untill the end of my second year at university but woah what a second year it has been.

A brief summery;

winning a competition with some fellow designers on my course to show our group collection, called Scandaravia, at a fashion show at Motion (in bristol). Tragically due to illness i wasn't actually there but we did get asked to make a 15 piece sale or return collection for a shop (hell yes).
Breaking my hand, a hindrance in every respect considering it was my right hand and i am right handed but it kind of helped with the project i am currently working on, Mexican day of the dead meets 1930's swimwear, when that is put in writing it seems a little odd but it works...i think.
Getting the go ahead for an exhibition at the Tobacco Factory (a bar/art space in Bedminster) showcasing young designers from U.W.E. Which is happening in Feb next year.

All in all its been pretty awesome, lots of fun has been had lots of stuff has been done and I intend to spend my summer making stuff and getting some ideas together for my final collection next year.

To end this excitingness before i post later with a load of knit samples scanned in on my scanner of pure undiluted evil check out my dress from Scandaravia, knitted on two, thats right two, kinds of knitting machine, it was potentially one of the most complicated things ever but i was pretty pleased with the outcome.
